The work of Save the Children
The lampies work in partnership with Save the Children. £2 from every 'Switch On To The Lampies' DVD and 50p from every 'A bit of a jam and other stories' will go to help vulnerable children in Mongolia.
Save the Children is the world's independent children's
charity. We're outraged that millions of children are still
denied proper healthcare, food, education and protection.
We're working flat out to get every child their rights and
we're determined to make further, faster changes. How many?
How fast? It's up to you.
Emergencies
It’s sad but true – when disaster strikes, children
are going to be the worst hit. Whether it’s flooding
or famine, a tsunami or war, we need to be there to make
sure they’re looked after.
We might provide tools to repair damaged houses, safe spaces
for children to play in, or food and clean water for families
who’ve lost everything.
Protection
Protection can be about keeping children safe: making sure
they’re not forced to fight in a war, or sent out
to work in dangerous jobs.
But it’s also about making sure everyone has their
rights. For example, in the UK, almost four million children
still live in poverty. We’re helping young campaigners
pressure the government to change this by organising meetings
and rallies.
Education
All children have the right to education. But did you know
that 77 million children around the world still can’t
go to primary school? Half of them live in countries affected
by fighting, weak governments, or extreme poverty.
We want to “Rewrite the Future” for these children
by helping them get an education. In the first year of our
campaign, we’ve already helped 3.4 million children.
Health and Hunger
All children have the right to life and to grow up healthy.
But 10 million children still die every year, largely from
illnesses that can be stopped or treated. That’s just
wrong.
We’re helping children to get better healthcare,
for example we’ve vaccinated 45,574 children in Liberia
against diseases. We’re also working hard to make
sure children have enough to eat. If children are well-fed,
they’re stronger to fight off illness and can concentrate
better at school.
How you’re helping
£2 from the purchase price of the Launch DVD ‘Switch
on to the Lampies’ will go towards our protection
work with very vulnerable children in Mongolia. We run rehabilitation
centres, where disabled children can get medical help or
therapy. And our shelters for street children provide a
safe place to stay, or just somewhere to drop-in and play
with other children.
